$30,000 given to Community Groups
10 November 2011
Last week the Macarthur Credit Union celebrated their 40th birthday and gave away $30,000 to a wide range of community groups in the Macarthur area.
Greg Wright the Chairman of Macarthur Credit Union said:
“Forty years ago life was very different in Macarthur and adedicated group of coal miners and truck drivers formed the Clutha Employees Credit Union Ltd, to service the 2,000 employees of Clutha mines. It eventually became the Macarthur Credit Union. The credit union was formed to make home loans and finance easier for the average working family.”
Over 120 members and staff sang “Happy Birthday” - with the Federal Member for Macarthur Russell Matheson called upon to blow out the candles.
The grants were awarded by Greg Wright, Chairman of the Board, to six organisations in Macarthur - “Our main priority is our members - we return our profits to them and each year we allocate much needed funds to worthy causes in the Macarthur area.”
Many applications were received and the judges awarded the grants this year to:
The Wollondilly SES to provide specialised light towers for assisting NSW Police in land searches and supporting light for large storm events when the community is without power.
Youth Solutions to develop a one-stop website for the community who need to access information about drugs and alcohol or seek support.
The Camden Amateur Swimming Club to install an Electronic Timing Results Board for Club & School Swimming Carnivals at the newly refurbished Camden Pool.
The Camden District Netball Association to provide Protective Padding for the new Netball Lighting Towers at Kirkham Park.
The Oakdale Workers’ Men’s Shed to help maintain the skill levels and social networks for retired men.
The Rainbow Playhouse Pre School at Tahmoor to provide laptops with appropriate education programs for pre-school learning.
