A brief history
1971 - November 12
A dedicated group of coal miners & truck drivers form the Clutha Employees Credit Union Ltd, to service the 2,000 employees of Clutha mines.
1978 - April 26
The name of the credit union becomes the Macarthur Mutual Credit Union Ltd. Membership is extended to the local Macarthur community.
1979 - May 15
The Picton Branch opens.
1979 - August 9
The Macarthur Mutual Credit Union moves from rented premises to their own premises in Argyle Street, Camden.
1985 - August 31
Prime real estate is purchased to erect the existing, modern head office in Camden.
1990 - March 1
The Narellan Branch opens.
1991 - February 14
Construction begins on the new site in Camden.
1992 - April 11
The new premises for the Macarthur Mutual Credit Union are officially opened. Now approaching $40m in size, the Macarthur Mutual Credit Union is the largest locally based financial institution, servicing the needs of the communities of Camden, Narellan and Picton.
1994 - December 1
The Tahmoor Branch opens.
1995 - January 20
A change of name occurs; the credit union becomes known as Macarthur Credit Union.
Today
37 years on, Macarthur Credit Union is the local, community credit union for residents of the Camden, Campbelltown and Wollondilly areas, in and for the community. Financially strong with $163 million in assets and staff committed to enhancing the financial wellbeing of 19,000 members by providing a different kind of banking: the special kind of banking where members really do matter.
