When NAB closes its doors in September, Macarthur Credit Union will actually be opening a new bigger and better branch across the road from its old branch in Picton.

“While a number of Picton residents are dismayed with the news that the NAB is closing its Picton branch, I would like to reassure them that there is still a terrific local banking alternative in Picton and we’re not going anywhere” David Cadden, General Manager, Macarthur Credit Union, said this week.

Mr Cadden pointed out that Macarthur Credit Union has been providing community banking services in the region for over 38 years. With the closure of the NAB David said he’d welcome the opportunity to invite more Picton residents to share in the benefits that come with the credit union’s mutual banking alternative.

Mr Cadden told us that the misconception that a credit union doesn’t offer a full range of services and products is often the biggest barrier to people using them.

“This is simply incorrect” he said. “We are proud to offer our members highly competitive loans, low (if any) fees and savings and investment products and just like any other bank, you can transact with us Australia-wide and overseas 24 hours a days, 7 days a week.”

As a mutual banking alternative, members of Macarthur Credit Union are shareholders and as owners they share in the credit union’s successes. Any profits made after operating expenses are given back to members through competitive products, lower costs and increased reserves.

“There are a lot of wins possible for Picton residents when they bank with the credit union. If Picton supports us, we’ll be able to support it more strongly too. That’s what mutual banking is all about. Importantly, we have a proven 38 year history of sponsorship and reinvestment back into this region,” David added.

Mr Cadden pointed out that the credit union offers local employment opportunities at its Camden, Narellan, Tahmoor and Picton branches. Local businesses can also enjoy discounts and benefits when they partner with the credit union in its “Shared Business Opportunity” program.

“We are very excited with our new location and premises and we have a number of celebrations being planned for our members and for Picton residents” said Sharon Gahan, Picton Branch Manager, Macarthur Credit Union. “We are looking forward to meeting a lot of the Picton residents who want to get to know more about us.”

“I would like to invite those residents and businesses that have been let down by NAB to talk with us. We have been in Picton for a long time and we intend to stay. We’re not going anywhere!”  Sharon added.
